Introduction

Peter calls every believer — not just leaders — to put on humility the way one puts on a garment. And he anchors this call in a breathtaking promise: the same mighty hand of God that presses us down in humility is the hand that will lift us up in His perfect time.

III. The COMBAT of Faithful Believers (vv. 8–14)

“Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith” (1 Peter 5:8–9).

Peter closes with a sober warning and a glorious promise. The enemy is real, his attacks are relentless, and the suffering of God’s people is not random — it is contested ground. But the God of all grace has the final word, and His word is: restoration, establishment, strength, and a foundation that cannot be moved.

III. The RELEASING Response to Suffering (vv. 15–19)

“Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator” (1 Peter 4:19).

Peter’s final word on Christian suffering is not to explain it, escape it, or endure it through gritted teeth — it is to release it. The believer is invited to place their soul like a deposit in the hands of the One who is both faithful and Creator. He keeps what we entrust to Him.

“If there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised. If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, your faith also is in vain... If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14, 17).

Without resurrection, everything collapses—preaching becomes empty, faith becomes futile, sins remain unforgiven, and hope dies. The stakes couldn’t be higher; resurrection isn’t optional doctrine but essential foundation.

III. REJOICE in Christ’s Victory

“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20).

Christ HAS been raised! His resurrection is firstfruits guaranteeing our resurrection. Death is defeated, victory is won, and our hope is secure in the risen Savior.

“Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself” (James 2:17).

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love” (Galatians 5:6).

“But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus taught that our primary priority should be God’s kingdom and righteousness. When we put God first, He promises to provide for all our other needs and concerns.

II. SURRENDER Your Plans to God

“A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).

Biblical planning involves making wise preparations while holding our plans loosely, recognizing that God’s will and timing are perfect. We plan with humility, knowing that God may redirect our steps.

III. SERVE Others with Your Life

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25).

Jesus taught that true fulfillment comes not from self-focus but from serving God and others. The most meaningful lives are those spent in service to God’s purposes.

Introduction

II. God's Love EXPERIENCED Through Salvation

"But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

We experience God's love not because we deserve it but because Christ made it possible through His sacrifice. This love transforms us from enemies to children, from condemned to forgiven.

III. God's Love EXTENDED Through Our Lives

"Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another" (1 John 4:11).

Introduction

Peace is one of the most prominent themes of Christmas. The angels proclaimed "peace on earth" at Christ's birth, Isaiah called Him the "Prince of Peace," and Jesus promised His followers a peace that surpasses understanding. Yet in our anxious, conflict-filled world, this promised peace often feels elusive.

Biblical peace is far more than the absence of conflict or a feeling of calm. It's the presence of God's wholeness, harmony, and restoration that comes through relationship with Jesus Christ. This peace was inaugurated at His birth and will be completed at His return.

I. Peace ANNOUNCED at His Birth

"Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14).

The angels' announcement at Christ's birth proclaimed that God's peace had come to earth. This wasn't wishful thinking but divine declaration that the Prince of Peace had arrived to reconcile God and humanity.

II. Peace AVAILABLE Through His Cross

"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful" (John 14:27).

Christ offers believers a supernatural peace that's independent of circumstances. This peace flows from our reconciliation with God and His presence with us through every situation.

III. Peace ASSURED in His Kingdom

"Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end" (Isaiah 9:7).

The ultimate fulfillment of God's peace will come when Christ establishes His eternal kingdom. Until then, we experience foretastes of that coming peace through His presence in our lives.

Introduction

Advent is a season of anticipation, preparation, and hope. As we prepare to celebrate Christ's first coming at Christmas, we also remember His promise to come again. The same God who fulfilled His promise to send a Savior will fulfill His promise to return as King.

The Bible is filled with promises about Christ's coming—both His first advent in humility and His second advent in glory. These promises sustained God's people through centuries of waiting and continue to give us hope today.

I. Promise PROCLAIMED Throughout Scripture

For a child will be born to us. A son will be given to us; and the government will be on his shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

God's promise of a coming Savior echoes throughout the Old Testament, from Genesis to Malachi. These prophecies gave hope to God's people and provide certainty about God's faithfulness to His word.

II. Promise FULFILLED in Christ's Birth

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, that he might redeem those who were under the law (Galatians 4:4-5).

Christ's first coming perfectly fulfilled centuries of prophecy, demonstrating God's faithfulness and providing salvation for all who believe. The incarnation shows that God keeps His promises.

III. Promise ANTICIPATED in His Return

Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many homes. If it weren't so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again (John 14:1-3).

Just as Christ fulfilled His promise to come as Savior, He will fulfill His promise to return as King. This future hope sustains us through present difficulties and motivates faithful living.

Introduction

Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain (James 5:7).

James calls believers to patience as they face injustice and await Christ's return. Like farmers who wait for harvest, we must trust God's timing while maintaining hope in His ultimate justice.

II. PRAYER in All Circumstances

Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly (James 5:13-14).

Prayer is God's provision for every situation we face—suffering, joy, sickness, sin, and spiritual need. James shows that prayer should be our first response, not our last resort.

III. PERSEVERANCE in Helping Others

Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns back a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins (James 5:19-20).

James concludes with a call to persevere in helping others who have wandered from the faith. Spiritual restoration is both a privilege and a responsibility for mature believers.
