Introduction
Peter has established that believers possess a living hope through Christ’s resurrection. Now he shows what this hope should produce in daily living. The call to holiness isn’t just religious idealism—it’s the practical response to what God has done for us.
Holiness begins with preparing our minds for action and culminates in living as people who have been bought with Christ’s precious blood and born again through God’s living word.
I. PREPARE Your Minds for Action
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13).
Holiness begins in the mind. We must prepare our thinking for action, maintain spiritual alertness, and anchor our hope in Christ’s return rather than present circumstances.
II. PURSUE Holiness Like Your Father
“But just as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all of your behavior; because it is written, ‘You shall be holy; for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:15-16).
God’s character provides both the standard and motivation for our holiness. Since we’re His children, we should reflect His nature in every area of our lives.
III. PERSEVERE Through God’s Living Word
“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever” (1 Peter 1:23).
Our ability to maintain holiness comes from being born again through God’s eternal word. This living word continues to sustain and transform us throughout our journey.
