Introduction

Peter has shown how Christ’s suffering accomplished salvation and assured victory over all powers. Now he applies this truth to daily living. If Christ suffered in the flesh and triumphed, believers must arm themselves with the same mindset, living radically different lives than their pagan neighbors.

This isn’t just moral improvement but complete transformation. Christians live for God’s will rather than human desires, love each other fervently, and serve one another with their spiritual gifts—all in light of the approaching end.

I. LIVE Differently Than the World

“Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God” (1 Peter 4:1-2).

Arming ourselves with Christ’s mindset about suffering enables us to break with sin and live for God’s will. Our past sinful lifestyle should contrast sharply with our present obedience, even though it surprises and offends former companions.

II. LOVE Each Other Deeply

“But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:7-8).

The approaching end demands clear-minded prayer and fervent love among believers. Love covers others’ sins through forgiveness and reconciliation, maintaining unity in the face of opposition.

III. LEVERAGE Your Gifts for God’s Glory

“As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).

Every believer receives spiritual gifts to serve others, functioning as stewards of God’s varied grace. Whether speaking or serving, we minister in God’s strength so that He receives all glory.
