Introduction
Leadership is one of the most discussed topics in business, politics, and organizations today. Countless books, seminars, and courses promise to teach leadership skills and techniques. But the world’s approach to leadership often emphasizes power, control, and personal advancement—values that directly contradict biblical principles.
Scripture presents a radically different model of leadership, one demonstrated perfectly by Jesus Christ. Biblical leadership isn’t about gaining authority over others but about serving others with humility and love.
I. Leadership SERVES Others
“Whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever of you wants to become first among you shall be bondservant of all” (Mark 10:43-44).
Jesus taught that true greatness comes through serving others rather than being served by them. Biblical leaders measure success not by how many people serve them but by how well they serve others.
II. Leadership SACRIFICES for Others
“The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).
Jesus demonstrated that authentic leadership involves sacrificial love that puts others’ welfare above personal interests. True leaders are willing to give up comfort, recognition, and even safety for the sake of those they lead.
III. Leadership STRENGTHENS Others
“He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving” (Ephesians 4:11-12).
Biblical leadership focuses on developing others rather than controlling them. Great leaders create more leaders by investing in people’s growth and empowering them to fulfill their calling.
